The highest peak in Colorado - Mount Elbert (14,433' elevation) - is located in the central part of the state just northwest of the town of Twin Lakes, CO. This popular hiking spot allows access to the summit from the north, east and south from either State Highway 82 in the south (South Mount Elbert and Black Cloud Trailheads) or Halfmoon Road (for the North Elbert Trailhead) in the north.
