Durango Area Trails

Durango, CO has an incredible array of local trails just on the edge of town, some managed by local authorities, some by the Bureau of Land Management and, a bit further afield, the US Forest Service's San Juan National Forest. With more than 300 miles of hiking trails within a half hour drive of town and a gateway to a number of wilderness areas - such as Hermosa Creek and Weminuche - Durango is a hiker's paradise. Located off 33rd Street is a trailhead servicing the Animas Mountain Trail Systems and Dallas Mountain Park. The Grandview Ridge and Horseview Gulch Trail Systems are on the southeast side of town accessible from a number of trailheads right of Hwy 550, while the Overend Mountain Park trail system is located on the west side of town. At the northwestern edge of town is the southern terminus of the Colorado Trail that begins in Denver and leads to a trail system in the San Juan National Forest. Across Hwy 550 is the Haflin Creek and Stevens Creek Trail system
