Colorado

This historic mining town of Creede near the headwaters of the Rio Grande river was home of the last silver boom in Colorado in the 1800s. Around this small town with a population of only a few hundred are a large number of hiking trails leading up into the hills of the La Garita Mountains north of town into the Rio Grande National Forest and the San Juans to the south, making it a mecca for hiking without the large crowds of the Front Range and other, busier parts of Colorado's mountain country. The mountain ridges north of town form the Continental Divide in this area.
